HIV/AIDS PREVENTION IN SRI LANKA
Although HIV infection rates remain low in Sri Lanka—still below 5% among high-risk populations—high-risk behaviors that facilitate HIV transmission are widespread, making the country extremely vulnerable to a large-scale epidemic. Currently most transmission in Sri Lanka is through sexual contact, not drug use, and directly tied to the socio-political and economic unrest in the northern and eastern regions.
CCSG's HIV/AIDS Prevention in Sri Lanka seeks to prevent an epidemic by building the capacity of NGOs and NGO networks focused on advocacy, raising awareness about safe migration/sexual practices, and service delivery.
