CAP MOZAMBIQUE
STRENGTHENING LEADING MOZAMBICAN NGOS AND NETWORKS

Print Version (PDF)

The United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS estimates that 1.3 million Mozambicans are living with HIV/AIDS. A steady rise in infections over the past two decades has taxed the public health sector's capacity to effectively deal with the epidemic, opening the door for civil society organizations to become strategic partners in delivering services to the growing numbers of HIV/AIDS-affected people.

The response to this challenge by Mozambican organizations has been overwhelmingly positive, with volunteers from community-based organizations (CBOs) giving countless hours of their time to support the well being of their communities. At the same time, these organizations are struggling to keep up with the demands of the epidemic and require additional support to be more effective in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

To address these needs and opportunities, CAP Mozambique strengthens the technical and organizational capacities of leading Mozambican networks, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations (FBOs) providing HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment services in their communities.

CAP Mozambique is unique because it develops tools and approaches that are tailored to the structure and needs of each organization. Also, CAP's small grant component includes customized institutional strengthening support for grant recipients, as well as technical assistance to support organizations during the grant application process.

CAP Mozambique's institutional strengthening methodology may be of benefit to organizations working in any sector and offers a model for participatory, inclusive, and transparent engagement of organizations in their own organizational development.

The CAP Mozambique program:

National and Provincial Trainings provide organizations with the skills and knowledge to apply for donor funds and effectively implement and monitor activities.

Technical and Organizational Strengthening support including training, technical assistance, coaching/mentoring, and peer learning is made available to a select number of organizations.

Small Grants are coupled with institutional strengthening support to enable organizations to implement activities through increased capacity and access to resources.

Mozambican Technical Advisors receive mentoring and guidance to become leaders in the provision of capacity development support to NGOs, CBOs, and FBOs.
