CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE SUPPORT PROJECT

Print Version (PDF)

Spillover from the violence in the Darfur region of Sudan, pressures from large refugee populations, poor economic performance, high rates of unemployment, and political instability contribute to an increasing amount of conflict in Chad. Communities located far from the country’s capital have little access to resources and support from the government and in their isolation must devise strategies for maintaining peace and meeting community needs.

To support rural communities in mitigating potential destabilizing factors at the local level, CAP Chad strengthens the capacity of community leaders and civil society organizations (CSOs), supports increased collaboration between local governments and CSOs, and provides access to resources for community development initiatives. CAP Chad infuses participatory approaches throughout each phase of the project, inviting the participation of community members, leaders, and CSOs in program design, implementation, and evaluation of project activities.
