WEST BANK/GAZA: "MODERATE VOICES" SUPPORT TO LOCAL INITIATIVES FOR NON-VIOLENT CONFLICT RESOLUTION (NVCR)

The continuing crisis in Palestinian-Israeli relations engendered an atmosphere in which fear andhostility dominate. AED’s Jerusalem-based project “Moderate Voices” : Support to Local Initiatives for Non-Violent Conflict Resolution (NVCR) worked to create instead an environment that encouraged non-violence, moderation, and tolerance in the Palestinian Territories. Through grants to local NGOs, “Moderate Voices” supported community-based projects that gave moderates a voice and promoted non-violent approaches to conflict resolution. “Moderate Voices” also funded grants to support peer mediation training, training of trainers in non-violence, a radio soap opera and magazine promoting non-violence, and training of TV hosts in moderating roundtable discussions to support dialogue about non-violent conflict resolution. Search for Common Ground (SFCG), AED’s partner, provided technical assistance and capacity-building.
