Darcy Ashman , Senior Program Officer

Dr. Ashman specializes in strengthening the effectiveness of civil society organizations, partnerships and networks at local, regional and global levels. Committed to international development for over 20 years, Dr. Ashman has served as technical adviser, researcher, program manager and educator. From 2001-2005, Dr. Ashman collaborated in a dozen consultancies with international NGOs, networks and donors to improve their programs, partnerships and networks. As Director of Programs at the Institute for Development Research (IDR) from 1999-2001, Dr. Ashman led or collaborated in five global teams that conducted action research with a variety of civil society partnerships. With the School for International Training (SIT) from 1985 – 1999, she co-founded the Global Partnership for NGO Leadership and Management and taught courses for NGO practitioners in Organizational Leadership and Behavior, NGO Capacity Building, and Research for NGO Managers. Dr. Ashman presents her research results in global conferences and publishes in peer-reviewed journals. She earned a doctorate in organizational behavior and civil society from Boston University and a master’s in international development from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University . She has worked in Kenya , Ethiopia , Malawi , Zimbabwe , Mozambique , Bangladesh , Nepal , Indonesia , Philippines , El Salvador , Nicaragua , and the UK .
